Ms.Bradford will be teaching pre- algebra and life science for the 2011-2012 school year. She received her Masters in Educational Leadership from Pepperdine University and her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Southern New Hampshire University. Ms Bradford played softball while attending Southern New Hampshire and participated in the NCAA regional tournament twice. She will be coaching a variety of sports this year including soccer, softball and football coach this year for the knights. Outside of teaching Ms.Bradford enjoys hiking,swimming and watching Dodger games,go blue!

Ms. Brandon will be teaching Science along with Dance and Spirit Team during the 2011-2012 school year.  She will also be the Science Fair Coordinator. She graduated from Chaffey College with an Associate of Arts degree in education and from California State University San Bernardino with Bachelors in Liberal Studies and a minor in English. She obtained her teaching credential from the University of Redlands and is currently working on her single subject credential in Science and Math at the University of Riverside as well as attending Riverside Preps Professional Development. Ms. Brandon has taught grades two through eight and has spent the last six years focusing on teaching Science to Middle School Students. Ms. Brandon believes that education is empowerment and enjoys sharing that motto with her students. Ms. Brandon’s favorite pastime is to spend time with her husband, daughter, turtle and two very funny Chihuahuas.

Mrs. Cammack, a 6th grade teacher at Riverside Prep Middle school, attended Southern Utah University where she received her bachelors degree in Education. After her youngest, of five children, started kindergarten she began subbing at Riverside Prep. She enjoyed teaching all grade levels and subjects. Never knowing where or what she would be teaching was an adventure!  Most of all, she enjoyed working at the same school where her children attended.  This is her first year teaching at Riverside Prep. teaching 6th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. She looks forward to the new adventure that awaits.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, cooking and sewing.

Senior Teacher 7th Grade
Mr. Thomas Charboneau teaches 8th Grade English at Riverside Preparatory. He is the assistant head coach of the football team and head coach for track and field. Mr. Charboneau is a teacher representative on the Riverside Preparatory Advisory board, where he serves as the clerk. He is actively involved in a number of other programs at Riverside Preparatory, such as organizing the National Geographic Bee. This is Mr. Charboneau’s fourth year at Riverside Preparatory and for the three years prior to joining Riverside Prep, Mr. Charboneau taught 6th through 8th grade at Mesa Linda Middle in the Adelanto School District. Prior to his formal teaching, he taught for many years at outdoor schools and summer camps. Mr. Charboneau presented at the California Charter School Conference in 2011, hosting a poster session on free online tools for the classroom and a break-out session on student First Amendment rights and the internet. Mr. Charboneau received his teaching credential through CSU San Bernardino, his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Oregon, and his bachelor’s degree in History & Law and Society from UC Riverside. Some of Mr. Charboneau’s hobbies include breeding and showing basset hounds and dairy goats.

Cadet Corps
First Lieutenant Kenneth Cook-Askins has served as the California Cadet Corps, Commandant of Cadets at Riverside Preparatory School since April 2008. As the Commandant of Cadets, he is the chief instructor of the California Cadet Corps unit and is responsible for the overall management of the program.  He has a Designated Subjects Special Subjects Teaching Credential (Basic Military Drill) from the State of California, Commission on Teacher Credentialing. First Lieutenant Cook-Askins was commissioned as a State Military officer in the rank of Second Lieutenant by the California Military Department in June of 2007 and was promoted to First Lieutenant in July of 2009. He’s a graduate of the Basic Commandant Training Academy and was the Distinguished Graduate for the Advanced Commandant Training Academy.  He has also graduated from three additional military professional development courses in the following areas:  California Physical Education Standards Based Instruction and Assessment, Advanced Drill and Ceremonies Instruction, and Civil, Public and Media Relations. Since June 2007, he has concurrently served as Brigade Support Officer for all California Cadet Corps units in the High Desert (18th Brigade) and also serves on the State Headquarters Staff of the California Cadet Corps as the Assistant Public Affairs Officer and Assistant Information Technology, Communications & Systems Officer.  As a Brigade Support Officer he works along side the Brigade Advisor, running the day-to-day operations of the brigade and helping in the administration of brigade and school district functions throughout the High Desert. As a member of the State Headquarters Staff, they lead and guide the operations of the state-wide California Cadet Corps program, in conjunction with the full-time staff personnel of the California National Guard, Youth and Community Programs Task Force.  He is also the Commandant of Cadets at Victor Valley High School and Lakeview Middle School.

Middle School Music Director
Mr. Cool first became serious about music when he taught himself guitar so that he could play for his church when he was 15. Soon he learned bass and joined his high school band at Riverside Poly where he was later introduced to percussion though the Winter Drumline program. Mr. Cool has studied and taught percussion ever since. A graduate of Riverside City College and CSU San Bernardino's music departments, Josh Cool has studied percussion under the instruction of Steven Schmidt, Gary Long, and Tom Float, and been a member of the Kingsmen Percussion Ensemble, Inpulse Drum and Bugle Corps, Riverside City College's Winter Drumline and Wind Ensemble, Corona Symphony Orchestra, as well as Performances with Riverside Lyric Opera, and Riverside County Philharmonic Orchestra.  Professionally, Mr. Cool has worked as a percussion coach and arranger for various Southern California high schools since 1999, an accompanist for Riverside City College's Dance Department for 5 years, as well as various gigs playing percussion and bass.  Other non-musical experience includes Technical Director/Lighting Designer for RCC's Dance Summer showcases. In his free time Mr. Cool like to write and record songs with his brother, with influences such as Dream Theater, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, Bullet For My Valentine, and funk/jazz/fusion.

Gina Dewar
8th Grade
Gina Dewar currently hold a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance with a Pupil Personnel Service credential.  She will be completing her second masters in Elementary Education with a Multiple Subjects teaching credential and will obtain this in December 2011.  Her teaching experience began in 2005 where she began as a substitute teacher.  Most of her experience has been working as a clinical counselor with the San Bernardino Superintendent of Schools.  There she provided Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Anger Management Classes at a Community Day School.  As a counselor she implemented various therapy modalities such as Gestalt Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Solutions Focused Therapy.  Her experience with the therapy modalities is that it helps students realize that they are in control over their lives and that it is important to make wise choices.  As a Teacher, her focus will be to help students develop a love for learning and develop inquisitive thinking.  This will be Gina’s first year as RP’s leadership advisor.

Mrs. Griswold will be teaching 7th grade English and Social Studies. This is her second year at Riverside Prep.  She received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in English from the University of California, San Diego and studied at the University of Madrid in Spain. Mrs. Griswold received her Teaching Credential from Vanguard University and her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University. Prior to coming to Riverside Preparatory,  Mrs. Griswold taught Elementary School, Jr. High, and High School for 15 years. She is a published author, having written Writing Lessons Using the Multiple Intelligences with Teacher Created Materials. She likes to spend her free time with her husband and 2 boys.

6th Grade
Ms. Keane will be teaching 6th grade this year. She received her Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Chapman University. Before becoming a full time teacher, Ms. Keane worked as a substitute teacher for Riverside Prep. She also taught special education for 4 years while living in the state of Florida. Ms. Keane likes to be wakeboarding in the summer and snowboarding in the winter during her free time. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter and family. She really enjoys reading. Her favorite book is Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom. This year Ms. Keane will also be coaching the middle school girls’ basketball team. Go Knights!!

Senior Teacher Fine Arts - General Music
Ms. Kearney began playing flute in her elementary school band. After high school, she attended Brigham Young University, where she studied music and elementary education. After graduating, she was recruited by the Jurupa Unified School District and came to California where she taught fourth grade for three years. This is her 3rd year teaching music at Riverside Prep. She has had a couple of wonderful years with Winter Wonderland, Piano Recitals and our spring musicals: Treasure Island and Tom Sawyer. She is fully credentialed and holds a Masters degree in Reading and Language Arts from CSUSB. In addition to teaching all of your fabulous children, she is mom to three active boys.

Mr. Kemble will be teaching 6th grade this year at Riverside Prep. This is his first year here at the school and is looking forward to making a difference in his students. Mr. Kemble comes from Apple Valley Middle School where he taught for 3 years as a special education teacher for 6th-8th grade. He comes from a sports background where he played baseball, football and soccer in high school. He then went on to Cerro Coso Community College where he played 2 more years of baseball winning 2 conference championships and earning his AA degree. He then transferred to Cal State San Bernardino and received his bachelors degree in Liberal Studies. He is currently attending Brandman University to continue his education and will have a dual credential in multiple subjects and special education, then it will be on to a masters program. When Mr. Kemble is not at work teaching you will find him spending family time with his 10 month old son and girlfriend. His son has made a real impact on his life and he is loving every minute with him watching him grow up. During the week you can find him at the bowling alley where he bowls competitively trying to earn another 300 game or 800 series. During college football season you will find him at every USC Trojan home football game, where him and his dad have season tickets. Then on Sundays you will find him relaxing and playing baseball in his adult baseball league.

Annie MacKay has lived in the high desert for over 20 years and attended local schools including Victor Valley College.  She went to California State University San Bernardino to teach Kindergarten and realized that she has a passion for Art, so she switched to Art Education.  She earned her teaching credential at Azusa Pacific University and will have her Masters Degree in Digital Teaching and Learning in January 2012. Teaching Art here at Riverside Prep combines her two favorite things: Art and Kids! Annie and her husband Thomas live in Victorville with their sons Owen and Noah.  She loves to paint and create things and looks forward to working with all the great students at Riverside Prep.

Ms. Mortimer is currently teaching 8th Social Studies. She is also coaching girls Volleyball and assisting in girls Basketball. This is her first year at Riverside Prep however she has been teaching for six years. Ms. Mortimer attending college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and then received her Teaching credential and Master’s degree at Chapman University. She also holds a Special Education Credential in Moderate/Severe disabilities. When she’s not working she enjoys spending time with her sixth year old daughter and her family. Ms. Mortimer’s hobbies include watching movies, reading, and attending Angel’s baseball games, taking her puppy for walks, and going to the beach and lake.

Mrs. Moses has the privilege of teaching the 8th grade elective wheel. This is her second year with Riverside Preparatory, and her first year at the middle school campus. Mrs. Moses received both her bachelors in Liberal Arts and teaching credential with the University of La Verne. She will begin course work for her Masters program in the spring of 2012. Mrs. Moses participated in performing arts for nearly 12 years, and will now be able to use that experience and passion by teaching a quarter of Musical Theater. She is the mother of both a 4 yr. old and a 1 yr. old, and stays busy enjoying her children and career.

Mrs. Alycia Owen begins her twenty-fifth year of teaching as she joins Riverside Prep’s Grade 6 Team. She studied at University of California at Riverside where she earned a Masters’ Degree in Educational Administration, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development. She has taught in San Bernardino Unified School District, Jurupa Unified School District, and college preparatory schools abroad including Karachi American School (Pakistan), International School Manila (Philippines), and Colegio Internacional (Venezuela). She served as Wellness Department Head in both the Philippines and Venezuela and designed and implemented an elementary ESL Immersion Program for Colegio Internacional. Her commitment to school life outside of the classroom has afforded her the opportunity to work with students from around the world in delivering service learning programs and mentoring teachers in international schools. Her recent workshops for educators include Speaking of Math: Developing Math Literacy and ESL in the Mainstream!?! It’s easier than you think. She sees the partnership between parents and schools as essential for student achievement and well-being and has offered classes designed to assist parents in meeting their child’s academic and emotional needs. Mrs. Owen’s family is at the center of her life and when she’s not in school, she enjoys time with them, as well as running, hiking, cooking, scuba diving, and listening to live music.

Ms. Pittman is teaching seventh grade Pre-Algebra and Life Science for the 2011-2012 school year. This will be her third year at Riverside Prep and third year as the head coach for the varsity softball team. Ms. Pittman attended Mount Olive College in North Carolina, where she received consecutive all conference honors in softball and received a BS in Psychology. She received her teaching credential from Cal State San Bernardino and is currently pursuing an additional degree in Mathematics. Ms. Pittman’s favorite hobbies include watching the Angels, taking her Chihuahua and Great Dane to the beach, playing softball, and finding forever homes for rescue animals.

Physical Education
Brandy Redmond is one of the Physical Education teachers for Riverside Prep’s Middle School students. Mrs. Redmond earned her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pedagogy from California State University of San Bernardino in 2007.  She earned her teaching credential and Masters of Art in Education with a Specialization in Cross-cultural Teaching from National University. Mrs. Redmond began working for the Oro Grande School District during the 07-08 school year at Mojave River Academy where she was an Educational Specialist working out of the Barstow site.  This is her first year at Riverside Prep, and she is excited to be working with the middle school students.

Ms. Sarkesian teaches 6th grade at Riverside Preparatory. She received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Arts Degree in Education from Chapman University. She is currently working on receiving her Reading Specialist Credential from Cal Poly Pomona. She coaches high school varsity volleyball. When she is not teaching or coaching, she is busy at home being a mommy to her two precious boys. She also enjoys traveling, camping and scrapbooking!
Matthew Schneider
6th Grade
Mr. Schneider is in his first year teaching at Riverside Prep. where he is teaching sixth grade. Mr. Schneider has lived in the Victorville area all of his life and graduated from Silverado High School. At Silverado he excelled in academics and sports which included football and wrestling. From there he went on to graduate from Cal State San Bernardino and received his bachelors degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Psychology. Mr. Schneider then went to the University of Redlands to complete his multiple subject credential which he received in the 2011.

Mrs. Heidi Smith has lived in the High Desert her entire life. After graduating high school, Mrs. Smith continued her education at California State University, San Bernardino where she received her Bachelor's of Art degree with an emphasis in painting. In an effort to further her education, Mrs. Smith obtained her credential from Chapman University. When she is not teaching, she enjoys sleeping on her days off, working on her own artwork which she has recently began selling, and spending time with her husband of five years. They have a house in Apple Valley and share it with a cat named Seymour and their one year old daughter named Scarlette. She is excited to be teaching art at Riverside Prep and is looking forward to seeing all the great artwork that will be created.

Ms. Smith is excited to teach band and music here at Riverside Prep. She earned her Bachelors degree in Music Education as well as her single subject teaching credential from California State University, San Bernardino. She has played her trumpet since 5th grade and enjoys every minute of it. When she is not teaching, Ms. Smith enjoys listening to music, learning new recipes, and spending time with her family.

Jennifer Sturdevant is excited to be teaching 7th grade English and Social Studies for the 2011-2012 school year.  She graduated from San Bernardino Valley College with an Associate of Arts degree, continued on in school to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, San Bernardino.  Before returning to school to complete her multiple subject credential, Mrs. Sturdevant started her own corporation in Hesperia.  While running a successful business, she returned to school to complete her Multiple Subject Credential at California State University, San Bernardino.   Mrs. Sturdevant has prior experience teaching in all different grade levels.  In her free time she likes to spend time with her family and friends.  Her hobbies include scrapbooking, camping, reading, and sports activities.
